Gadget Freak Case 141: Motorized Mountainboard
Design News Staff -- Design News, May 11, 2009
Here's a skateboard that doesn't need a hill (or a push-off from your foot) for propulsion. James Howland and his project buddies, Pat Rimel and Nate Davis, created a motorized mountainboard as a project for their mechanical engineering class at Colorado State University. The gadget has a handheld speed control, and the team was able to get the board up to speed of 13 miles per hour. The speed decreases while traveling up hills but still has enough torque to conquer hills with ease. The mountainboard also has buzzer on the nose that acts as a horn.

There are a couple "motorboards" out in the market already that are much lighter... but have shorter run capacity (due to smaller/lighter batteries). Nice college project though ... And yes.. a bit lacking in the technical side for a college project.
Back in my college days circa 1994-1996 I was involved in a fully SCCA race-certified Electric Porsche 914.
And to the guy that was complaining about English skills... YOU mispelled grammar. Not "grammer". Check yourself before you wreck yourself.

And the documnetation is a perfect example of why English grammer courses should still be required regardless of your major.'>Sorry to be a bit of a wet blanket but I see many technical oversights for a 'College' level design. It's cute but I have seen much better work in High School science fairs.

THAT IS WAY COOL! I like the features you designed in. What about a 10W amplified speaker system for mp3 player?
