Gadget Freak Case #131: This Gadget Blows a Sonic Boom
John Tindall's Sonic Boom Cannon Array produces an on-ground sonic boom - no 600 mph fighter jet required
Design News Staff -- Design News, December 7, 2008
Earlier this year, John Tindall had the envious job as science builder on the first season of the History Channel's “UFO Hunters.” One episode contemplated the possibility UFOs could create sonic booms — the powerful noise that comes when the sound barrier is shattered. The show's creators asked Tindall to recreate a sonic boom without flying a fighter jet at 600 mph. So Tindall built the Sonic Boom Cannon Array, a gadget that weighs more than 4,000 lb and produces an on-ground sonic boom. The device sits on a 24-ft trailer and compresses air until it creates a pressure wave that “cracks” into a sonic boom.

I too would like to put in my 2 cents on the link problem. They simple never! ever! work. Gadget Freak could be really interesting but as it is now it is totally worthless. I have had interest in GF 130,129,128,126,124,122,121,117,116,113,108,107... you get the point, but it's ALWAYS a corrupt download or a link that has nothing to do at all with the case at hand. Come on D-N, do you handle the links or the GF submitter do it. If D-N has no problems I would like to know what the difference is from you to me.

Regards,
Dave'>On this and past Gadget Freak articles, I have observed comments where the person has trouble openning the document.
If I were part of "Design News," I would make certain these links were working well on several different PC's and browsers before turning the articles loose on the engineering public.
Regards,
Dave

Adobe Reader says "There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired" when I attempted to open this PDF file. BTW, the MS Word document for the parts list opens without any problems.
In reading previous Gadget Freak Case projects, I've seen a lot of similar comments. Is there a problem with the process (like using FTP in text mode) that periodicly corrupts the file attachments?
