Conformity assessments ease up for electronics manufacturers

Another big step has been taken toward worldwide acceptance of a single certification and mark for electrical and electronics products. The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has decided to loosen its restrictions on who can perform conformity assessments under its standards. IEC will now allow assessments by certification bodies, testing laboratories, and inspectorates in countries that are not IEC members. Until now, IEC recognized assessments only if they were done in IEC-member nations. Manufacturers in newly industrializing countries are expected to benefit most.
