New rotary belt tensioners from Fenner Drives bring belt drive technology, developed for the automotive industry, to general industrial applications. The RT3000 and RT3001 design uses a spiral torsion spring that provides reliable operation in medium- and heavy-duty applications. The tensioners provide an operating range of 0 to 45 lbs, and a method for easily adjusting tension using counting degree marks on the casting body.
Designed for use with single or multiple belts or strands of chain, the new line of tensioners is ideal for use with single or multiple groove V- and flat-belt idler pulleys. Use of the spiral torsion spring absorbs momentary overloads and reduces vibration versus designs which use elastomeric tension members that can cold-flow, fatigue or take a compression set. The key to the new design is versatility and flexibility. The center hub is offered in two stock configurations, through hole or tapped, which enables the installer to mount the assembly from either the front or back. The hub keys into a hex configuration and is easily removed from the assembly, which allows the user to disassemble the unit and gain access to the spiral torsion spring. By flipping the spring upside-down, the unit can be used in the reverse direction. To avoid re-assembling the assembly improperly, an indicator incorporated into the design prevents the user from installing the unit with the spring functioning in the unwound versus the proper wound direction. The unit is also designed with an arm that can be easily replaced by removing four standard fasteners, which allows the arm to be easily customized. The casting body is equipped with pinning fixtures to make it simple for OEMs to set multiple tensioners to the same setting without using the degree marks.
