Linear bearing goes for the gold

Western Technical Editor Mark Gottschalk cites noteworthy power transmission products

By Mark Gottschalk -- Design News, April 5, 1998

Introduction of a new bearing liner material--FrelonGold(reg)--in Pacific Bearing's Simplicity(TM) line of bearings has resulted in twice the load rating and more than 2.5 times the life of original Frelon-lined bearings. This results in 20 times the load rating and 270 times the average life as compared to standard linear ball bearings, the company claims. FrelonGold cuts friction from Frelon's average of 0.30 to 0.125, reduces the wear rate from 0.0005 to 0.0001 per 25 million inches of travel, doubles maximum load pressure to 3000 psi, and increases speed capability from 140 sfm to 300 sfm. Like all Simplicity plain bearings, FrelonGold-lined bearings are self lubricating, self cleaning, and can accommodate any combination of linear and rotary motions. Pacific Bearing, Product Code 4235.
