FloWorks 2000 fluid analysis tool

Kevin Russelburg -- Design News, July 11, 2001

Wednesday, September 27, 2000

San Francisco, CA--FloWorks 2000 fluid analysis software includes an enhanced user interface, faster solution processing for large designs, improved speed, and the addition of a new engineering calculator. It gives design engineers a fundamental analysis of the flow of gases and liquids, heat transfer, and other forces on immersed or surrounding solids.

Designed for the analysis of engines, valves, hydraulics, piping, pumps, HVAC, and other complicated assemblies, the software translates problems into engineering analysis goals rather than numerical convergence criteria and solver parameters. And, FloWorks 2000 speaks the language of engineers, its developers say. They translated the quaint jargon of older analysis programs, such as "Boussinesq approximation," into plain engineering terms such as walls, inlets, and outlets.

A fully automatic, adaptive grid-generation procedure also eliminates the need to generate meshes. The software is currently being used by organizations such as Intel, Johnson Controls, the NASA Ames Research Center, and TRW Automotive. For more information, visit www.floworks.com.

Light Matters: Systems Level Approach to HBLED illumination applications
Its good practice to apply a systems-level approach to high-brightness LED (HBLED) illumination applications. Minimally, the system includes the optical, thermal and electrical characteristics of the of the HBLED, the lens (if any) which is built-in to its package, secondary optics such as external plastic lenses/reflectors to direct the light as your application requires and power driver electronics.
