Dual algorithm solves problems faster
Associate Editor Laurie Peach picks noteworthy CAE Software
By Laurie Peach -- Design News, October 5, 1998
OptiStruct(reg) 3.2 from Altair Computing (Troy, MI) features a new dual-method algorithm that enables engineers to solve more complex topology optimization problems. According to Altair, its finite element-based optimization tool is three times faster than the previous release. Engineers can specify multiple constraints in a problem, including compliance, frequency, volume, mass, displacement, weighted compliance, weighted frequency, or any combination. This release also supports acceleration and rotational loads as well as thermal stress. Also new on the Altair agenda is OptrisĀ® 6.0, developed by Dynamic Software. Optris 6.0 automates simulation set-up for the die design process. The software offers automatic filleting, and alerts designers of possible design problems such as wrinkles or tearing.
